ONE SYNTH WONDER - NEW MEMBER ASSIGNMENT - WIN SCALER 3

Announcements

Here's mine: https://community.producertech.com/manixdj/uploaded_audio/454/table4one-radio-edit

It is a radio edit as I needed more than 4 mins, I may complete a full version. Was all produced in Avenger2, which was a great way for me to learn how that synth works and just how powerful it is! I love it now!! Enjoy!

Tunes that got you into dance music

General Producer Chat
Hey guys

I'm preparing to DJ for the first time in a while, and I've been going through some old tunes - and absolutely loving it! It got me thinking what were the songs that first exposed me to electronic dance music?

Mine was Orbital - Halcyon & On & On. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV-hSgL1R74

A nice, woozy, beautiful, ecstatic intro to dance music, my dad actually used to play this to me before I went to sleep.

I wanna hear yours!
Thanks for sharing, I love the Orbital stuff just the kind of ethereal kind of vibe I love! I have to admit I had not listened to much of their stuff before so you've helped me out with that! Cheers Sam.
Good question Sam! Always love an opportunity to share transformational dance music! Orbital were for sure very instrumental in that process for me too. Other artists included The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim (this is back when I used to see them DJing in a back room in Turnmills), Prodigy... we all know their tunes though, even some of the early ones, although I am a big fan of several of their more obscure b-sides I have on vinyl from when they were just starting out.

Most of those guys appealed to me because of their musicality and most specifically inclusion of heavier guitar elements, as I was into Grunge and Indie at the time.

Instead though I'll put this one on here, as it was one of the many songs that got me into Breaks. Naked and Ashamed from (my now friend) Dylan Rhymes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6RHIDAqOso

It was featured on a Smirnoff ad in the 90s and I found it in a record shop after that and it became one of my faves to drop in sets and get the dancefloor going - never failed!
When I first heard this I definitely heard your references to Chemical Brothers and Prodigy, but I definitely went to the Fifa 99 reference rather than the Smirnoff ad!

As for mine, well mine isn't quite as cool, and probably too mainstream for this thread, as I always go back to The Prodigy Experience (the entire album!) for getting me in to Dance music and specifically Hardcore Rave in the early 90's. It's what made me want to go to record shops, buy decks, collect flyers and plaster my bedroom wall with them!

However, if you want a couple of major influences on my current tilt of Trance and Techno a couple of tracks stand out for me:

Hybrid - Finished Symphony:

I like the unfinished original too, just prefer the more modern one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4E70tK1GLQ&t=72s

I am sure the breaks will be appreciated based on the tracks you both selected above.

Sorry, I couldn't leave a thread without a mention to something a bit leftfield, literally! Their album Leftism was defo a big part of me evolving my journey away from just Rave based genres and my favourite track from that album is probably Afro Left:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OReM7TkvKJo&t=53s

Sorry couldn't pick just one!

ONE SYNTH WONDER - NEW MEMBER ASSIGNMENT - WIN SCALER 3

Announcements

Hey, so I have a couple of technicality type questions:

1. I am not sure my old MacBook Pro's CPU is going to like multiple tracks of one synth, especially Avenger, so if necessary can we bounce sounds created in the synth to audio tracks to save CPU?

2. Similarly, can we create sounds as effects in the synth and then manipulate them as samples in the DAW? I am currently working on some Techno Rumble which technically is the kick I have created in Avenger (using Waveforms not samples) recorded, reversed and then put through an effects chain.

Thanks

Dreamscape > My latest offering!

Let us hear you!

Thanks Petter, happy 2025! appreciate the feedback. To have anyone say my music is a journey is the best compliment ever, because that is what I want for my music, to be a journey as that’s always what I’ve taken from any music I love, the journey, the emotion, it’s why I love DJing too. And for someone who love trance, which is all about the highs….the builds, the drops!

I agree that it could maybe have something else to tie it all up….thank you, that’s why I share.

Peace out ✌️

Progressive House - Shamed

Let us hear you!

Nice work Petter. I really like that! For me the Guitar parts don't work in the track, kind of clutters up the mix and I don't think they add anything, If anything they take away from the stronger and more appropriate parts of the track.I actually think some sort of strings would work great, I think the idea is there, it's just a Guitar for me isn't the instrument. Defo enjoy adding that added bit of euphoria in the track! The kick is tricky, it is quite muddy for my tastes and could probably do with some more compression. You also lose it a bit in the later sections, so I'd pay some attention to that.

The rest of the track sounds great, love those lead sounds an the interplay with the vocals. Works well IMO. Great work mate!
