one synth wonder banner.jpg

As the name suggests, this assignment is to make an entire track using just one synth of your choosing. Any synth you like - software or hardware - just make sure only that synth is creating all the sounds.

You can do as much additional processing to sounds as you like, but they must ALL BE SYNTHESIZED NOT SAMPLED. If your synth of choice is capable of sampling (like Avenger or Phase Plant), you'll need to make sure any presets you use aren't just replaying samples.

Your track genre can be anything you like and the length should be 1-4 mins as you prefer.

CHECK THE INTRO TO THE ASSIGNMENT IN THE ACTIVITIES SECTION HERE

As always, when you've done your track, post it on your profile in the forum and then add a link to this thread...

DEADLINE: MONDAY 26th MAY 2025

1st PRIZE: SCALER 3

RUNNERS UP PRIZE: SCALER 3

Winners will be picked live in a Zoom feedback session in June.

If you have any other questions, let us know on this thread...

Good luck and we look forward to hearing your entries joyful-2

Hello guys! really challenging assignment, can we use some vocals on it or is just instrumental?

Hey, so I have a couple of technicality type questions:

1. I am not sure my old MacBook Pro's CPU is going to like multiple tracks of one synth, especially Avenger, so if necessary can we bounce sounds created in the synth to audio tracks to save CPU?

2. Similarly, can we create sounds as effects in the synth and then manipulate them as samples in the DAW? I am currently working on some Techno Rumble which technically is the kick I have created in Avenger (using Waveforms not samples) recorded, reversed and then put through an effects chain.

Thanks

It is tough yeah! If you want to add a vocal, feel free. It will no doubt make the track better but also detract from the synth parts potentially, so you certainly won't get extra points for that, and may even lose some if you ended up relying on the vocal too much to carry the track.

1. For sure, bounce tracks and edit...

2. Yes that's fine. As long as all the sounds are made by the synth, you can of course process them with effects within the synth and in the DAW.

Yep, I am on with a euphoric techno banger and so far it's working. Just pulling in some more elements and then will be on with the mixing. hoping you all love it more than my CPU though laughing-2

Taken a while on this one. Started out using Serum, but struggled with synth drums, but found some drum presets on SynthMaster 2 which isn't a synth I've commonly used, so stuck with that and built up from there.  All synth sounds (often heavily processed) but no samples. Tough to resist the temptation to add vocal samples, but did!

Nice work Transpire!  Looks like you're on your own so far!

Does everyone need a little bit more time? Maybe we do another week....

We're about to upload a bonus sound design tutorial and bring out the Seppa Drum course, both of which would be very useful to this assignment!

Here's mine: https://community.producertech.com/manixdj/uploaded_audio/454/table4one-radio-edit

It is a radio edit as I needed more than 4 mins, I may complete a full version. Was all produced in Avenger2, which was a great way for me to learn how that synth works and just how powerful it is! I love it now!! Enjoy!

Hi this is my entry. As I said, not sure if fits into the assignment. Anyway I worked everything using Serum2 except the vocals. The composition is an old tune I already had, sung by a friend of mine. What I did is modify the arrangement and replace all the sounds with new ones from the synth. As Serum uses sampled waveforms I modified all the sounds, included the drums and all are from synthetized waveforms. Anyway it was a great challenge and very funny because I'm not really into working with synths less with just only one! so thank you for the opportunity!!
