Studio setup and sound treatment

General Producer Chat

Thanks for the link, sounds easy enough to make me want to have a go, I also found this video which uses the same approach but slightly different frame and also allows you to make the panels thicker, which probably helps their effectiveness.

Studio setup and sound treatment

General Producer Chat

I've been considering doing this as my room is apparently the worst possible - a small cube!

@tamlinspeaks - what type and thickness of Rockwool did you go for?

Attack Magazine produce a book called the secrets of dance music production which is quite good (most of the info is on their or other websites but if you want it all in one book you might like it - unless you're not making dance music :-)

HELLO 4AM REMIX COMP!

Well this didn't turn out quite how I first intended it to. I started with an idea for creating quite a heavy breaks version in 4/4 but just couldn't get the vocals to work. After trying a few different ideas out it ended up something completely different.

I've kept it in 3/4 and stayed quite true to the original structure but hopefully given it quite a different vibe where I've gone for a Cafe Del Mar/Ibiza sunset type track. Really enjoyed the challenge of working in 3/4 fo rthe first time ever.

HELLO 4AM REMIX COMP!

Not sure if it was just my setup, but when I imported the unwarped stems, Ableton set a start point a few 100 ms in on some of the tracks, so the stems weren't all starting at the right/same point - so it took me a while to work out why it wasn't playing along nicely together.

HELLO 4AM REMIX COMP!

Yay! Another great Producertech Remix Comp :-)

So the question/challenge for me is do I work in 3/4 for the first time ever or try and convert the stems to 4/4 (if that's at all possible?) - Decisions, decisions...

But I have decided that I'm going to limit myself to just work with the stems and the little bit of hardware I've got - I'll only be using Ableton as a multi-track & mixing desk

Right, this year, I'm finally making an album!

General Producer Chat

I'll be following this one with great interest - good luck! Is the Arab Trap track going on there? I've set myself a similar target but kind of the opposite; I want to release 4 separate tracks under 4 different aliases in 4 completely different styles - I bet you'll release your album before I finish my 4 tracks :-)

Anyone want to make a track in 35 days?

Collaborative Space

so nothing new to report as I've not managed to get any time working on the track this week. So I've just told myself to think of it as hitting the pause button for a week.

Lesson learnt - Despite being busy with other things, I can't keep telling myself I don't have the time to work on music - I do, but need to be more self-disciplined to commit the time, even if it's just a 15 or 30 minute session.

Ear Training

General Producer Chat

Good question and a quick one for me to answer - I don't have any! But it's definitely something I could benefit from doing, so I'd be interested to see other people's answers
