Anyone want to make a track in 35 days?

Collaborative Space

Re: Arab Trap, yeah, it's a pretty great combo! It's actually a style I make with a DJ Producer from Dubai. I'm actually thinking about making this genre-combining a new member assignment, so you might find out more about it sooner than expected!

Okay, I'm in! I have an Arab Trap track I just started that I'd like to finish in the next month, so I'll go with that one.

Mixing full drum loops

General Producer Chat

So this is a single drum loop out of Loopcloud, which is a full drum loop containing multiple drums, e.g. kick, snare, hat etc.? And you're asking how to go about mixing it?

If so, this is the biggest issue with using a single drum loop in a track and the reason why, for the most part, people create drums using individual samples on different tracks, so you have full control over the mix. That said, if it's simply a case of adding more width at the top end, you can do that with effects that only work on the upper frequencies. What effects are you using to add width? There are multi-band stereo imagers that can add width (normally through a delay) to separate bands, so just work on the highs. This will affect the highs in the kicks though, so the kick transients, but this is often desirable anyway.

Another way is to use a separate effect to remove the low frequencies from the stereo signal after applying width, in order to take the kick out of the wide space you've moved it into. In other words, if you're using a delay or other widener on the whole drums signal say, you can then use something like a mid/side EQ to remove all of the low frequencies from the side (stereo) signal, which will get rid of any width that had been added to the kick.

Let me know if you have any more questions.... I can try to cover this in my next livestream potentially...

PC performance of Rob

General Producer Chat

Hi Paddy!

I'm using a pimped iMac from 2013! It's definitely a system I would recommend for audio and video work because it's nearly 10 years old and is still going pretty strong! Here's the spec....

Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 3,1 GHz

Memory: 16 GB

The hard drive is a 500GB SSD

Anything else you want to know?

Cheers,
Rob

Hi, new member here. lost with where to upload the mixing for the comp.

General Producer Chat

Hi Nastika! Just upload the audio file to your profile - you'll see an audio tab on your profile page, then click the plus button and you can add a track to your profile. Once done, just post a link to the track on the remix comp forum post....

Shout if you need any more help with anything.

New Instruments in Maschine and Kontakt are always way too loud

DAW or Software Questions

Whereabouts is the signal overloading? If you can identify where in the chain the level is set differently, e.g. on the instrument, on the soundslot/mixer, on the group, on the master.... etc. then it might make it easier to figure out. It sounds like it's changed a default setting somewhere, although there aren't any changeable default settings on Maschine that I'm aware of (other than going into the preferences and selecting default projects, which wouldn't have happened without you noticing).

Strange that you're getting it in Logic too. Is it only happening with Kontakt in Logic, but all instruments in Maschine? Kontakt does have a menu option for easily/accidentally changing the default preset, so that could explain it in that instance.

In any case, I would trace the gain stage from wherever you notice it clipping, e.g. on a track fader, backwards to the origin of the sound, checking all level controls along the way. If that doesn't seem to help, then it could be a bug potentially. It certainly doesn't sound like normal behaviour to me.
