I'm preparing to DJ for the first time in a while, and I've been going through some old tunes - and absolutely loving it! It got me thinking what were the songs that first exposed me to electronic dance music?

A nice, woozy, beautiful, ecstatic intro to dance music, my dad actually used to play this to me before I went to sleep.

Good question Sam! Always love an opportunity to share transformational dance music! Orbital were for sure very instrumental in that process for me too. Other artists included The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim (this is back when I used to see them DJing in a back room in Turnmills), Prodigy... we all know their tunes though, even some of the early ones, although I am a big fan of several of their more obscure b-sides I have on vinyl from when they were just starting out.
Most of those guys appealed to me because of their musicality and most specifically inclusion of heavier guitar elements, as I was into Grunge and Indie at the time.
Instead though I'll put this one on here, as it was one of the many songs that got me into Breaks. Naked and Ashamed from (my now friend) Dylan Rhymes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6RHIDAqOso
It was featured on a Smirnoff ad in the 90s and I found it in a record shop after that and it became one of my faves to drop in sets and get the dancefloor going - never failed!

Thanks for sharing, I love the Orbital stuff just the kind of ethereal kind of vibe I love! I have to admit I had not listened to much of their stuff before so you've helped me out with that! Cheers Sam.

When I first heard this I definitely heard your references to Chemical Brothers and Prodigy, but I definitely went to the Fifa 99 reference rather than the Smirnoff ad!
As for mine, well mine isn't quite as cool, and probably too mainstream for this thread, as I always go back to The Prodigy Experience (the entire album!) for getting me in to Dance music and specifically Hardcore Rave in the early 90's. It's what made me want to go to record shops, buy decks, collect flyers and plaster my bedroom wall with them!
