It works with F too basically. Officially (and according to the composer) it's a ii diminished, but having the C in the chord (F Ab C in F minor) and omitting the D causes no real problems harmonically! If you play the ii(b5)7 chord I recommend at the end of the video btw that has F Ab C and D in, you'd be covering all bases there!
Hey y'all!
For anyone in need of help in the theory side of things, there's a new bonus tutorial this week in the form of a masterclass looking at the harmony in Succession. A little bit different from our usual stuff, working with a keyboard, but plenty in there for producers of all levels!
Check the vid in the Bonus Tutorials section HERE.
Here's a guide to the different sections too, in case you want to skip past the first bits (if your already confident with the music theory basics).
0.00-1.06 = Intro
1.06-6.53 = Minor Keys and Scales
6.53-16.47 = Triads (Diatonic Chords)
16.47-23.14 = Seventh Chords (Major/Minor/Dominant)
23.14-31.50 = Succession Chord Sequence (i-VI-iib5-V)
31.50-40.08 = Trying out New Chords
40.08-46.50 = Summary and Wrap up
Enjoy!

I've never watched Succession, but I'm guessing from the title, it's the dramatic story of the succession plans of a Colombian druglord. So my entry is a roughly Latin beat inspired remix: https://community.producertech.com/all-the-bufos/uploaded_audio/404/succession-theme-as-latin-beat-speedcore

Close! It's a disgusting American media corporation though. In any case, it's a nice rework, good job
Yeah, as Sam says, it's a nice track for sure. In terms of your criteria, you've absolutely done a good job.
1. Low-end work
The bass levels are decent and none of them are fighting with each other. The Kick is strong and punchy and the bassline complements it well.
2. Sound selection
All sounds in the track are genre appropriate and fairly high quality. There's a good range of instruments and melodies and they meld together nicely.
3. General level balancing
The drums are coming through very well and the vocal has a good presence. Melodic sounds are slotting in as you'd hope and filling out the mix without making it messy and cluttered.
Nice work! You're definitely going in the right direction
If you want to stretch it to a different tempo then go ahead, and similarly changing the melodic content a little with regards to rhythm and timing is fine. But yes, I probably wouldn't mess with the harmony or change the chords, as it will most likely turn it into a different beast! It does want to be easily recognisable as you say.
Hey y'all!
Got some new Trap loops for you this week. Particularly nice bass and music loops, and the majority are 140bpm and plenty in Cmin too, so could be very useful for your Succession reworks potentially...
Grab em in the DOWNLOADS area.
Enjoy!
