As for the legality... You can always remix and mash up released music for fun and playing out. If you post it somewhere, you might have to take it down if algorithms flag it. I think you shouldn't share tracks like this technically (give them to anyone), as that might be considered as distributing copyrighted material, but DJs have done that kind of thing forever so it's common despite the legal side being a bit of a grey area. As you say, the biggest no no is when you try to earn money from it, by releasing or otherwise, which is when labels might hunt you down!!

Nice work! Have commented on the track on your page, but overall it's a great job. The main groove is excellent and certainly got me moving! Some of the cymbals are a bit out though timing-wise, and the levels are a bit loud too, without many effects so they kind of jumped out a bit. Other than that though, everything's working pretty well together and in general, you've nailed the simplicity and made it work well from just a few samples, which is the aim of the assignment, so nice one!
