I'm getting into producing a lot of ambient music, but not having much luck? Can anyone give me any pointers for creating ambient music? what software/synths/techniques do you use?

Hey @tamlinspeaks

I have dabbled in Ambient, mostly just jamming out on the Push. It's fun.

Two key elements you will need:

- A synth that lets you build evolving pads, so something which allows a lot of modulation options. Vital, Pigments and Hive are good. Best to use more than one, for variety.

- A step sequencer to generate random notes and arps. I like Stepic (because it lets you sequence modulation as well), and Euclidian Sequencer Pro (its a Max4Live instrument).

Find some patches that work well together and then lay down some pads and a simple bass line to anchor the sound, then improvise on top of that with synth and foley patches, or throw a sequencer at them.

There is a YouTube channel called S1gns of L1fe run by Chris, who has many awesome tutorial videos if you are looking for more inspiration.

Hi @graham

Thanks! Those are some great tips. The random notes and arps tip is something I'd never considered before, but makes total sense.

I'll check out that youtube.

Will keep you posted when I produce something worthwhile...
