HELLO 4AM REMIX COMP!

Announcements

@hyzexdj No, you can make the remix in whatever software you like. The stems are just audio so you can import them into all DAWs. Live and Logic are just the most popular ones with users on this site, so we've included some tutorials showing specific timestretching examples in those, but you can carry out all the same sorts of actions in FL Studio as far as I'm aware - I think you use the Time-Warp sample feature.

Help or guidance needed about sound sale

General Producer Chat

There should always be a contract if someone wants to release your music, so you can read the terms in that, and ask about the particulars beforehand. Most dance labels (in my experience) do a 50/50 split for instance, although it can be quite a lot less for the artist in some cases (especially with bigger labels and more popular music by newer artists). It's perfectly acceptable for you to ask about the royalty split and a contract before you send them any music.

Hardware

DAW or Software Questions

There was a post a while back about controllers.... https://community.producertech.com/ptmembership/forum/daw-or-software-questions/194/which-controllers-do-you-really-appreciate

Some recommendations of mine would be:

• Ableton Push (just for Ableton Live though obvs)
• NI Maschine (for performance/finger drumming especially)
• Novation Launchpad (again just Ableton though)
• Novation Circuit - such a great bit of hardware, loads of fun, can be used without a computer, even used to run on batteries!

Hey @smillington! All good. I was trying to make things clear for people rather than completely accurately labelling chords (e.g. reminding that the 7 is flattened making it a dominant 7 rather than major 7). I think C7 could confuse some people, thinking it's a major 7 chord still.

@sentinel71 here's a Logic vid showing the warping of stems in that: https://youtu.be/Lm3Td9sloic

No worries! Sure, I'll see if we can put together a quick vid showing this in Logic... off the top of my head, I would use flex audio to stretch the stems to the correct number of bars in the arrangement (e.g. using the flex tool on the region).

Hey PT,
Im a newbie when it comes to most things in producing. ive extracted the files and put them into abelton one by one on different tracks. Loaded 135bpm and set it off and its sounding very strange. Is there a way of uploading it into abelton so the arrangement makes sense, or is this whats expected, no arrangements -Thats what im suppossed to do?
Thanks

There's actually some tutorials coming this week giving comprehensive instructions on timing and pitching of stems, so hopefully these will help.... :)
