• Learning the basics in a DAW is normally the best place to start. For instance, taking a beginners level course in Ableton Live would be a great first step. The course below goes from first steps with the software up to making basic arrangements, with audio and MIDI.

• To support this, it's recommended to check out our beginners guides to different areas of production; a range that we'll be expanding over time. These currently include:

EQ Fundamentals: https://www.producertech.com/staff-picks/148/eq-fundamentals?number=PT001

Compression Fundamentals: https://www.producertech.com/staff-picks/172/compression-fundamentals?number=PT008

The Art of Filtering: https://www.producertech.com/staff-picks/170/the-art-of-filtering?number=PT007

The Art of Sampling: https://www.producertech.com/staff-picks/157/the-art-of-sampling?number=PT003

Beginner's Guide to Synthesis: https://www.producertech.com/staff-picks/154/beginner-s-guide-to-synthesis?number=PT002

Beginner's Guide to Music Theory: https://www.producertech.com/staff-picks/162/beginner-s-guide-to-music-theory-for-producers?number=PT005

• Fill in the gaps with our Bonus Member Tutorials! There are a lot of extra tutorials on this Community Site, the bulk of which were made in 2020, covering all sorts of subjects from mixing and sound design to specific software. Some recommendations for beginners (going from beginner to advanced) are:

• Bassline Techniques #1
• Lead Design Techniques #1
• Stereo Width Training/Quiz
• Reverb
• Creating the Perfect Kick Drum
• Sample Design
• Creating Dreamy Pads

Just search for them on this site or find them in the BONUS TUTORIALS section.

• Finally, consider checking out some artist (genre) courses, perhaps in a style you're interested in making. The difficulty level of these courses does range quite a lot though, with some producers getting more technical than others, so some prior knowledge is definitely required for most of the courses in this category. Feel free to ask other members on the forum what courses they've liked and you'll hopefully get some good suggestions there...

Hope this information helps!
